Peacock
Wrought Iron, Copper and Glass Security Door
This peacock security door was made by David Wood for a private client.
The design draws on peacocks in early twentieth-century art, sculpture and decorative metalwork, turning the entrance into both threshold and artwork.
A forged framework of branches, leaves and flower forms holds the bird in place. Hand-worked copper forms the body, while circular glass pieces fall through the tail.
The door has the weight and strength of a security screen, but also movement, light and a certain playfulness.
It is practical, though really it behaves more like sculpture set into the house.
