David’s
Wrought Iron Security Door
Everything old is new again.
This wrought iron security door was created for a client with a deep appreciation of art.
The brief drew on many art encounters and influences gathered through worldly travel, with the concept centred on incorporating a number of collected treasures.
Developed through many full scale drawings, the door took over two years to create through redesigning, forging, shaping and fabrication.
Window grilles
A year later, David made two matching window grilles for the same home, installed in early 2026.
The grilles carry through the forged roses, scrolls and botanical forms of the original door, while giving the front windows their own rhythm and presence.
Their design was also shaped by an ironwork piece David had admired some 15 years earlier at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
Rather than copying it, David worked from the memory of that encounter, drawing it back through his own hand and into a pair of grilles made specifically for this house.
Signature roses
David’s forged roses are a signature part of his work.
They appear across both the original security door and the later window grilles, tying the whole commission together through the same hand-forged botanical language.
The roses are distinctly David’s own, and have also appeared in other Bent Metal work, including the forged roses made for a L’Oréal campaign.
